Territory 1
Communication, agents and social systems
How do people and agents take part in coordination and the production of meaning?

Our research agenda
When an AI agent answers, proposes or negotiates, it stops being a channel and becomes a participant. This territory studies that participation.
For a century, communication theory has described exchanges between people mediated by techniques. Conversational agents and multi-agent systems alter that description: they produce utterances, hold turns, and coordinate actions. Here we ask which concepts — interlocution, context, agreement — remain useful and which need revision, and how to observe coordination between human and nonhuman participants empirically.
Proposed agenda for the lab's initial stage.
